Our Introduction with Gillie’s Auto Lounge

On a beautiful September Sunday morning, Gillie’s Auto Lounge hosted a Cars & Coffee slash Open House at their new venue barely a few months old. Gillie’s Auto Lounge reached out to us trying to bring exposure to their new venture and we were happy to help host an event to show our members what Gillie’s has to offer. Gillie’s is a members-only lounge, speakeasy, cigar-lounge, and car storage facility dreamed up by Michael Olguin. As Michael showed us around his meticulously decorated lounge, it was amazing to hear him talk about his family and where his love of cars began. His father Gillie, would take Michael and his three other brothers car cruising in the California desert. As Michael pointed to a wall of 27 black & white photographs that he had taken with his family back in those days but didn’t have a use for him until he began to build out his Midway District location. His taste and sense of community drives his passion to bring people together for the love of cars.
“Given we were all between the ages of 8-14 most kids would think this was boring, but we loved it. We were fascinated by the shapes, sizes, colors, makes and models. Deep down we were dreaming about one day driving a Cadillac, a Mercedes or a sports car.”
Not just a lounge, but members have access to their climate controlled, 24/7 monitored car storage for their most precious rides. Fire protection beyond code, battery tenders, tire pressure checks, and routine exterior dusting ensure members understand their vehicles are protected and celebrated.
On the community side, the lounge, cigar bar, concierge service, and events give members a wide range of activities. It seems like they’ve got a new event every week! Riley, Michael’s talented Operations Coordinator, has his hands full coordinating the shop and events that take place.
For our BMW CCA event, Gillie’s invited guest speaker Kennan Rolsen of www.kennanr.com and former employee #1 of the Cars&Bids automotive auction site. Gillie’s had prepared some questions for the event and Michael interviewed Kennan all things cars and BMWs with Kennan’s own silver E39 as the backdrop.
