June Cars & Coffee Event

Our second Cars & Coffee event this year was another huge success! The weather was a bit better this time without the pre-event drizzle, the skies were sunny, and coffee was flowing thanks to the coffee van on site and La Jolla Independent serving brew and donuts from one of their several cars in attendance.

Point Loma Cars & Coffee hosts weekly events on Saturdays in Liberty Station, and they were more than gracious to agree to host another themed weekend for our BMW club. Their creative posts on social media really helped to get the word out. #pointlomacarsandcoffee

The BMWs on hand included some unique and rare cars, including one of the rarest: a real 2002tii Turbo! Also on hand was an Isetta 300 that was beautifully restored. The owner relayed how freeway driving can be harrowing, especially with the tiny wheel base and track, minimal horsepower, and narrow tires that look more like the ones you would find on a small trailer. I was granted access inside the lilliputian car and it was a real treat. There is nothing more surprising than seeing the steering wheel move away along with the door in front of you. How’s that for unique?! Plenty of other BMWs made the show, including Carl Nelson’s art car, a bunch of 2002s in nearly all varieties including a touring version, and even a Bauer—cool! I noticed a few e28s, a couple Z3 and Z4 coupes, several wagons too. The M’s were out in force of course with M2s, M3s, M4s, M5s, and M6s, all from nearly every generation, and even a burly X3M. It was also great to see a small contingent of modified bimmers ranging from mild to wild mods. LS swap anyone?

Overall, people seemed to have a great time chatting and enjoying each other’s company. You never know what you’ll see at the next event, but I do hope to see YOU.
