BMWCCA San Diego Chapter – Board Meeting Minutes for May 8, 2007


Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm.


Board Members Present:

Guest Speaker:

Geneva Middlebrook gave a brief presentation on the Coronado School of Arts and their fundraising effort. A donation of a one year BMWCCA membership and an autocross event entry was provided to use as fundraising auction items.


Secretary’s Report:

The April minutes were distributed and approved without change.


Treasurer’s Report:

$6,354.11 was reported in the checking account and $13,653,74, plus interest, in the CD.


Vice President’s Report:

A brief overview of information presented at the National Chapter Congress was given. Topics included volunteer management & recruitment, membership Welcome packets, and retention.


President’s Report:

The Club will need to control risk management at driving events. Waivers will be needed for activities involving group driving such as caravans, rallies, etc. Parental waivers will be required for minors. Notices for upcoming events of regional interest will also be posted on the national BMWCCA website. A reporter from the Union-Tribune will be invited to cover the next autocross event. Ideas were discussed for making new members feel welcome and retaining existing members. A motion was made and approved to purchase and produce new displays for local dealerships to hold club information and business cards. The possiblity of hosting a Street Survival event is still under consideration. Upcoming events should be featured in the newsletter and web calendars at least two months in advance to ensure greater attendance.


Autocross Director’s Report:

Cunningham BMW is supporting our autocrosses by providing water and will sponsor trophies after the May event. The new timing system has been purchased and will be tested the day before the May 27 autocross at a Lotus Club event. Online registration is now up and running. Details for the Rug Cunningham Memorial Award are still being considered and could involve a runoff event among autocross class winners.


Driving School Director’s Report:

Approximately 78 students are expected at the Buttonwillow Driving School and all preparations have been made.


Newsletter Editor’s Report:

Submissions should be sent to the sd-newsletter@sdbmwcca.com address. Mailing costs will be going up with the postal rate increase.


Social Director’s Report:

Upcoming events: June 10 Sunday Brunch at Pine Hills Lodge, $18.50/person, RSVP by June 3. August 4 Padres game vs. S.F. Giants, seats in Toyota Terrace on First Base side. Sept. 9 performance of Chicago at Civic Theatre, $ 64.25/person.


Waxmeister’s Report:

The Clean Car Contest is June 3. Catered lunch will be available for $10.00. To date approximately $3500 worth of items for the auction have been acquired.


Webmeister’s Report:

An update to the graphics on the site could considered. There are forums on the website, just not much activity.


Other Business:

A Tech Session at Bumper Medic is scheduled for May 24.


Additional car numbers will be obtained to complete sets for upcoming autocross events.
