2008 Poker Rally
It was Sunday, September 21st. An overcast day but perfect for an early morning drive. As I drove up to Cunningham BMW's used car lot, I immediately noticed an issue. The gate was still locked! As meeting time came around, people were starting to show up for the Rally but no one to unlock the gate. By 8:30 the streets were lined with various types of BMWs. A Rally drive usually attracts the usual suspects. ///M3 owners came in one a time, followed by an occasional e46, e39 and e90. By the time everyone showed up, we had 39 people and 18 cars total. At 9:00 on the dot, we let everyone loose for the 108.2 mile Rally.
The Rally started from Cunningham BMW and continued down Washington towards the 94. Following the 94 on Campo road, led you to the first pit stop at 30.8 miles into the Rally. As you continue to follow the directions you were taken up, down, left and right along an awsome stretch of road where you ended up at the Golden Acorn Casino for the 2nd check point. Some Rally participants decided to make a pit stop and drop a few coins into the slot machines before heading out to the 3rd check point. Participants follwed Old Highway 80 for a while until comming up on the 3rd checkpoint before heading back to Cunningham BMW.
Once back at Cunningham, the gates were opened, food was cooking and participants started to trickle in one at a time. After about a half hour, ALMOST everyone was back at the dealership while we collected cards and conversed with members about the route they drove. After everyone made it back to the dealership and had a bite to eat, we announced the best hands and prizes were given away. The Rally was a lot of fun and the outcome was fantastic. Special thanks to Cunningham BMW for sponsoring the event and a special thanks to everyone who participated in the Rally. Maybe next year we could put a stopwatch on this event?
